Denmark-based cybersecurity company Uniqkey has raised €5.35 million to scale its cybersecurity solutions for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across Europe. The funding round was led by BackingMinds, alongside contributions from industry veterans, including Jesper Zerlang and other prominent investors. This investment comes at a crucial time, as 50% of Europe’s 24.3 million SMEs lack a comprehensive cybersecurity plan, exposing them to increased risks of cyber attacks and data theft.

Uniqkey’s platform provides military-grade password protection and secure access management for companies, helping to mitigate the biggest security threats SMEs face, particularly password mismanagement, which is responsible for 81% of cyber attacks. Their solution uses mobile authentication apps—similar to Europe’s local ID systems such as Denmark’s MitID and Sweden’s BankID—to safeguard company systems and simplify secure access for employees.

As Europe prepares for stricter IT security regulations, such as NIS2 and DORA, which will hold directors accountable for breaches, Uniqkey’s service is timely and essential for SMEs looking to enhance resilience against growing cyber threats. The company has grown significantly, protecting over 500 SMEs and experiencing 100% year-over-year growth.

With the newly raised funds, Uniqkey aims to continue its growth and keep pace with evolving sme cybersecurity standards, further solidifying its role in fortifying European businesses against cyber risks.
